Your trust is important to us, and it is one of our most valuable assets. One way we earn your trust is by protecting your personal information; therefore, we will only use your information to do business with you, and as permitted or required by law. We will not sell your information or share it with third parties for marketing purposes.

With that in mind, John Hancock has established this Online Privacy statement that describes how we use the information we collect from visitors to our John Hancock websites. This Statement applies to the information we collect from you over the Internet. To learn more about how we protect information that is collected when you apply for a John Hancock product or service, please refer to our Customer Privacy Notice.

Do All John Hancock Websites Require Visitors to Provide Personal Information?

Most of the product or service information available on John Hancock websites does not require you to provide personal information. Examples of your personal information are: name, address, email address, phone number, account number, and any other information that identifies you. However, some of our websites need to be secure and require us to use identifying data and passwords to assure only authorized persons gain access to customer account information.

How Do We Use and Share the Information We Collect From Your Visits to John Hancock Websites?

Your decision to provide John Hancock with personal information when accessing our websites is voluntary. The information you provide will only be used to help transact business with you, or to respond to your request for products or services.

John Hancock will not disclose any personal information obtained from website visitors to any third party for purposes not related to servicing accounts, unless required to do so by law or regulation.

Many visitors to our websites want to be kept apprised of new John Hancock products and services. In that case, you can request to receive email messages from us by providing your email address on available forms.

What Is a Cookie?

Like most websites, ours may automatically collect information about your computer hardware and software which may include your browser type, operating system, access times and Internet Protocol (IP) address. This information is often contained in “cookies.” We use this data in an aggregated form only (not in any form that personally identifies anyone) to track use of our tools and features for internal programming, demographic and other research purposes. In addition, we may maintain records of access of those individuals who are registered to access the secured features of our website.

How Do We Protect Your Information?

We employ technologies intended to safeguard the transmission of your personal information through this website. A “secure connection” is established using Secure Socket Layer protocol (SSL) whenever you send or receive personal data. SSL scrambles your personal information as it travels over the Internet from your browser to our secure Web server. This protocol is supported by almost all modern web browsers.

We also utilize a timeout feature on select areas of our website. This feature automatically logs you out of your account after an extended period of time. Re-establishing and authenticating your credentials for your online session can help reduce the possibility of unauthorized access to your John Hancock accounts.

What Is a Phishing Email?

John Hancock will never ask you to provide your personal or account information via an unsolicited email.

Phishing starts with unsolicited emails
asking the recipients to click on a provided link or attachment to update or change personal information, apply for additional products, or to avoid having accounts suspended, closed or claim a prize. After clicking on the unsolicited attachment or link, the email recipient is taken to a fake site that requests personal information, which could include bank account numbers, user IDs, passwords, personal identification number (PIN), credit card numbers, Social Security numbers (SSN), account numbers, or other confidential personal information.

If you receive an email that appears to be from John Hancock and asks you to respond by providing personal or financial information, do not reply or click on the link. Instead, contact John Hancock directly to confirm the legitimacy of the email.
